NCISAA State Volleyball
Tournament Quarter Finals
October 26, 2007
#10 Cary Academy vs. #2 Wesleyan Christian Academy
L 0 – 3
CA 21 – WCA 25
CA 18 – WCA 25
CA 22 – WCA 25
The Lady Chargers traveled to Forsyth
Country Day today for their Quarter Finals match against
Wesleyan Christian Academy in the NCISAA State Tournament.
The Chargers played a solid match and refused to go down
without a fight. Losing three games is a tough way to exit
the State Tournament, but many people didn’t think we would
make this far to begin with. The final score does not give
justice to how well the Chargers played today. For being
such a young group of girls, they played with excellent
composure and played like a veteran squad. I know we’re all
excited and can’t wait to get back on the court next season.
I can’t express how proud I am of all of the players on the
team. I would also like to give a special thanks to the fans
that have been supporting us and traveling to cheer us on
this entire season…THANK YOU X-FACTOR!!!

TISAC Tournament Review: Lost to NRCA in Semi’s 1 -
3
The Lady Chargers had an excellent
showing this year in the TISAC Tournament. Unfortunately,
like the past 3 years, the Chargers fell to NRCA. The
Chargers fought hard but couldn’t pull it off and lost in
four games to the Knights. The Knights would eventually go
on to win the tournament. We did not hang our head though,
because we know we played our best and fought hard. On
another positive note, the Lady Chargers had two players
make the All-Conference team (Christina Wieand, Sr. and
Mackenzie Larsen, So.). Congratulations to both of them! The
Chargers will be looking to make an impact now on the entire
state as we await the results of the seeding committee and
see if/who we will be playing in the first round of the
state tournament.

Cary Academy @ Ravenscroft: L 1 – 3
CA Varsity Volleyball finished off the
season on a four game losing streak… not exactly the way we
were looking to finish the season. Fortunately, tournament
play does not depend on regular season play. The Lady
Chargers will be wiping the slate clean and starting a new
this weekend in the first round of the tournament. The TISAC
tournament should be a closely contended one this year as
all the teams in the conference are good matches. If you
have free time this weekend, be sure to make it out to DA to
support your Chargers.

Cary Academy @ Durham Academy: L 0 – 3
The Lady Chargers traveled to Durham
Academy today with a bulls-eye on their backs. Durham
Academy came out gunning for the Lady Chargers as they
looked to improve their standing within the TISAC
Conference. For some reason, Durham Academy has had our
number all year though and for the second time this year CA
falls to DA. We will be looking to get one more win before
the end of the season as the Lady Chargers travel to
Ravenscroft for their last match of the regular season. Wish
the ladies good luck!

Cary Academy hosts NRCA: L 1 – 3
The Lady Chargers played a solid game
against TISAC rival, NRCA. Unfortunately, we were not able
to pull off the victory. The Lady Chargers will have
their last home match this week against Riverside High
School. Please come out and support our Seniors and the rest
of The Chargers as we look to end our season at home on
positive note.

Cary Academy hosts Riverside High School L 2 – 3
The Cary Academy Chargers hosted
Riverside High School for their Senior Night game tonight.
The Chargers came out a little sluggish and we thought we
might have been finishing the season at home on a down note…
but we were wrong! Tonight’s game was probably one of the
greatest volleyball games played at Cary Academy. Our ladies
made one of the biggest comebacks from down 10 – 22 in the
third game to win and get the momentum back on our side. We
then won the 4th game and finished with an
exciting 5th game that needed extra points to
decide. We didn’t win the match but tonight showed just how
much heart all of the girls really have. Great game girls!!!

Cary Academy @ Saint Mary’s School W 3 – 0
The Lady Chargers took their game on
the road today as they traveled to the hot dungeon at St.
Mary’s. It brought all of us back to the open gym days from
this summer with how hot is was in their tonight. The
Chargers kept their wits about them though and played a
solid 3 games to pull off the victory. With some missed
substitutions along the front row, the opportunity opened up
for some of our back row players to play the giant role and
get some swings on the net including a game winning kill by
Casey Sedova in overtime of the first game. The Lady
Chargers will be looking to improve on some rough serve
receive today as they get ready for conference rival NRCA on
Friday. If you don’t have anything to do this Friday, even
if you do make some time, to come support your Lady Chargers
in a BIG GAME!!! We’ll be putting it all on the floor for
you this Friday. See you out there.

Cary Academy hosts Ravenscroft W 3 – 1
The Lady Chargers hosted the Ravens
today at home during the Fall Tailgate. The Lady Chargers
were charged up with the huge crowd supporting them and
cheering them on. Using the crowds energy and enthusiasm,
the Lady Chargers overcame the Ravenscroft Ravens in 4
games. This one was a match for the ages as each game
contained runs and a battle for the points at the end of
each game. I couldn’t be prouder of the girls and the way
they played tonight. It was quite impressive to see how well
they played together. We could have used a little better
serving but the rest of their game was on point tonight. Way
to go ladies! We’ll be looking for the play next week as we
have two conference matches Tuesday and Friday against St.
Mary’s and NRCA. Let’s keep it up Chargers!

Cary Academy @ Wesleyan Christian Academy L 0 – 3
The Lady Chargers traveled out to
Wesleyan Christian Academy today in search of a win. Spirits
were high for the Chargers and we shook off some the rust
from this weekend, but found the same result as yesterday.
There are many things you can learn from a loss and we will
be fixing these things at our practice this week. Although
the Chargers lost, they played 3 well fought games and a
couple calls going the other way or point swings the other
way and this result could have easily been in our favor. The
Chargers will be working out the kinks this week during
practice and getting for Ravenscroft this Friday during the
Fall Tailgate at Cary Academy. Come out and cheer on your
Lady Chargers as they look to improve on their conference
record with a big win this Friday!

Cary Academy hosts St. David’s L 0 – 3
The Cary Academy Lady Chargers hosted
St. David’s today. Today’s game would see the return to a
full squad for Cary Academy. Unfortunately, that did not
guarantee a win. The Lady Chargers played well, but it might
have been a case of the Monday’s that held them back in this
game. We allowed St. David’s to go on too many runs and fell
too far behind during the game to pull off a win. CA went on
a couple of their own runs to pull back into each game, but
just couldn’t close out. Not exactly the foot we were
looking to get started on this week, but we’ll be looking to
improve tomorrow when we travel to Wesleyan.

Cary Academy @ North Raleigh Christian Academy L 0 – 3
The Cary Academy Varsity Volleyball
girls traveled today for the first time in a couple weeks to
North Raleigh Christian Academy. The Chargers played well
today while adjusting to yet another line-up change. The
Chargers played a well rounded game, but just couldn’t find
an answer for NRCA’s big hitter and hard serving. The
Chargers have the rest of the week off before they come back
next week with 3 games in 5 days. The girls will be looking
forward to the strong support of their home crowd with two
home games next week on Monday and Friday. Let’s see what
you got X-Factor!?

Cary Academy hosts Durham Academy L 0 – 3
The Chargers took the floor today
against a strong defensive Durham Academy team. The Chargers
couldn’t find a way to put away the ball on the offensive
end. Everything we kept throwing over the net, kept getting
dug up and put back on our side. This along with multiple
attacking and passing errors isn’t a good combination for
winning. The Chargers have some work to do to clean up
simple mistakes made and figure out what needs to be done to
finish up the season strong.

Cary Academy hosts Saint Mary’s School W 3 – 2
Today, the Chargers took on their first
conference opponent in St. Mary’s. It proved to be a tough
battle, but in the end the Chargers pulled through for a
five game victory. We almost pulled it out in four games
with a stellar come back in the end of the fourth game. The
Chargers faulted on some crucial service points which
stopped some momentum that we had going. Drive and
determination carried us through the end though as we
started our conference matches with win. Let’s keep it up
ladies and get another win against Durham Academy on Friday.
I’ll be expecting some more fan support for a tough match on
Friday! The Quest for the Banner continues!!!

Cary Academy vs. Forsyth Country Day School W 3 – 2
One word describes tonight’s game
against Forsyth Country Day School…Incredible! Tonight’s
game was probably one of the most emotionally loaded games
we’ve been in. The Chargers came out strong, winning the
first two games with good serving and strong defense.
Spirits were running high and the girls might have spent too
much energy on the first two games, as there was a major
lull in the energy with the next two games. The Chargers
dropped the next two games due mainly to low spirits and
allowing Forsyth to go on runs of 5 – 6 points at a time.
The Chargers did fight back in the end of both games, but it
was too little too late. The fifth and final game started
off slow for the Chargers as they let the Furies get ahead
by a couple of points. We fought back though and took the
lead. High spirits carried the Chargers through the final
game point…twice! If you couldn’t make it to this match you
missed an epic battle! Great job ladies! We’ll be looking to
ride this wave through next week, when the Lady Chargers
take on St. Mary’s Tuesday @ home and Durham Academy Friday
@ home. Hope to see our fans out there!

Cary Academy vs. Wilson Christian Academy 1 – 3
The Cary Academy Chargers had a tough
time tonight trying to figure out the scrambling defense of
Wilson Christian Academy. It seemed like everything we threw
at them, they kept scrambling to get back up. If you were to
look at the digging stats, you would have thought we won
with three players (Cate Glendenning, Mackenzie Larsen and
Christina Wieand) all putting up at double figures in digs.
We were noticeably lacking on offense however, with minimal
kills and too many passing errors to get a continuous flow
going. The Chargers will be looking to turn things around
next week with a home match against Forsyth Country Day.
Come out and support your Lady Chargers, we need some fans
to help keep the energy pumping in the gym!

Cary Academy vs. Franklin Academy 3 – 0
The Cary Academy Volleyball girls
started their 5 game home stretch on the right foot today
with a win versus Franklin Academy. The Chargers won today
with aggressive serving and smart net play. With key players
still on the bench, the other girls stepped into new spots
and filled the holes nicely. Our defense did a great job
getting everything up and in play. We’ll be looking to
continue our great play Thursday against Wilson Christian.
Once again, a big thank you to the continued fan support, we
love the loud cheering section!! See you Thursday.

Greensboro Super 6 Volleyball Tournament: Cary Academy took
5th place.
This past weekend, the Cary Academy
Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Greensboro to
participate in the Super 6 Volleyball Tournament. The
Chargers played well, while still dealing with injuries to
two team members. I had tried a couple different line-up
changes on the girls throughout the tournament and they
handled it pretty well. We’re still working out players
positions and learning where each member can contribute best
to the team. We finished the tournament on a strong note,
winning our last two games we played. We are looking forward
to our next stretch of matches as we will be playing at home
for our next 5 straight matches. We’re looking forward to
the continued fan support and want to have a good streak of
hopefully 5 wins. We will be starting our 5 game stretch
tomorrow night against Franklin Academy. Come out and
support your girls!

Cary Academy vs. Greensboro Day School 3 -
1
The Cary Academy Chargers
hosted Greensboro Day School in their first home match of
the season today. An endurance match lasting four games,
with almost each one going to the wire, resulted in the
girls first win of the season. The Chargers overcame some
last minute lineup changes with all out hustle on the floor.
We will be looking to ride this victory into this weekend,
where we will be traveling to Greensboro for the Super 6
Tournament at the Sportsplex. We are looking forward to this
weekend and are looking to bring home some hardware. I would
like to thank the excellent fan turnout and the great
enthusiasm/spirit displayed in the stands last night. Hope
to see you guys at all home matches!

Cary Academy @ Charlotte Latin:
8/17/2007 L 0-3
The Cary Academy Chargers traveled to
Charlotte this to take on Charlotte Latin in their first
match of the 2007 season. The chargers, in the midst of
replacing 7 seniors from last year’s team, played 3 quality
games. Still learning a new system and feeling out
positions, the lady chargers played 3 solid games of net
defense and offense. We are very young and still figuring
out what works best for our team, but we got a good look at
our potential for the future. We can only improve as our
season goes on. We are looking forward to surprising many
who thought this would be a rebuilding season.

Cary Academy @ Providence Day
School: 8/18/07 L 1-3
On the second day of travel in
Charlotte, the chargers played Providence Day School in the
morning before heading home. Today’s game brought the same
result as yesterday, but significant improvement was very
noticeable as players were beginning to realize mistakes
they had made against Charlotte Latin. All four matches were
hard fought and the match that was won showed sparks of
excellence that the lady chargers will soon be demonstrating
on a consistent basis. We will be hosting Greensboro Day on
Tuesday for our home opener and hope to have a packed house
to cheer on the future of Cary Academy Volleyball!
