TMSC Division III Second Round Results: Gold VB vs Bethesda
Christian Academy 0 - 2
Alas, “All good things must come to an
end,” which was
true for Gold Volleyball.
CA traveled to Bethesda Christian Academy(BCA)
yesterday afternoon to play the #1 seed in the semifinal
game of the Division III TMSC Volleyball tournament.
We played hard, we gave it our best shot and we came
up short. CA
lost to BCA 2-0.
BCA’s dominant serving and excellent play on the court was
just a little too much for us to handle.
CA lost game one 25-12.
We adjusted in game two and kept it close, but in the
end BCA pulled away to a 25-18 win.
The girls did very well this season and we are
looking forward to next year.

TMSC Division III First Round Results: Gold VB vs Cary
Christian 2 - 0
The CA Gold Girl's Volleyball team kept
their season alive with a 2-0 win over Cary Christian in the
first round of the TMSC tournament. CA came out strong in
game one behind excellent serving runs from Daniella Ochoa
and Maggie Birmingham-Corbett. Their serving was
supported by excellent play on the floor by the rest of the
team. CA went on to win 25-9. Elizabeth Carlton
opened game two with an excellent scoring run. The
team worked very well on the court setting up several very
solid three hit plays. Also, they moved well to the
ball and did a solid job communicating. Additionally,
Jen Kenyon added a second serving run to put the game out of
reach for CC. CA came out with a 25-14 victory.
With the win, CA moves on to the semi-final round. We
play at Bethesda Christian at 4:00 on Thursday afternoon.

CA @ Neuse Baptist Christian School 1-2
The CA Gold Girls Volleyball team
traveled to Neuse Baptisit Christian School(NB) yesterday
for their final regular season match. In game one CA
started slow and NB pulled ahead quickly. Once again
CA had difficulties receiving serve. When we did
receive serve we followed up with very good play on the
court. CA tried to get back into the game, but NB went
on to win 25-14. Game two was a different story.
CA started strong with excellent serving and solid serve
receiving. However, NB kept the game close and tied
the game up 24-24. CA was able to break their serve
and finished strong with a 26-24 win. Unfortunately,
CA had a let down in the tie-breaker. NB jumped to an
early lead, but CA battled back to keep it close.
However, NB was able to pull ahead and went on to 15-8
victory. CA ends the regular season with a 5-7 record.
The girls have worked hard this season and learned a lot
about the game of volleyball. Their overall
improvement as a team has been outstanding. CA's next
match is in the opening round of the TMSC Div. III tourney
against Cary Christian. It will be on our home court
in the SEA on October 8.

CA vs. Sallie B Howard 2 - 0
The CS Gold Girl’s V-ball team improved their record to 5-6
with a victory over Sallie B Howard.
CA’s serving caused significant problems for SBH.
As a result there were only a few significant
rallies. All of
the players were aggressive on the ball and everybody hit
serves. The Gold
Girls played excellent team volleyball.
We are looking forward to our final regular season
game on Tuesday, October 2.

CA @ Cary Christian 2 - 0
The CA Gold Volleyball Team traveled to
Cary Christian(CC) yesterday for their second match of the
season. CA put together two solid games to win the
match 2-0 (25-18, 25- 8 ). CA played well in both
games. The strongest aspect of yesterday's games was
serving. The CA girls were very consistent in putting
the ball over the net and then playing the court well to
retain serve. Once again, the girls worked well as a
team. Great Job Chargers!!

CA @ Bethesda Christian Academy 0 - 2
The CA Gold Girls VB Team lost to
Bethesda Christian Academy(BCA) yesterday 2-0. The
scores of the games were 25-16 and 25-18. Enough
about the outcome, let's talk about how the girls played.
CA put together their best two team performances of the
year. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to overcome a
very well-disciplined and strong serving BCA. CA
served consistently, played well on the court with solid
passing and, for the first time this season, started to work
the net. The girls played hard and did it as a team.
Several players had notable personal performances.
Samantha Pompeo did well at serve. Also, Alyssa Potter
and Brittany Walker did excellent jobs on the court.
To round out the bunch Alex McKay did a super job at the
net. Great job girls.

CA @ Durham Academy 2 - 0
The CA Gold Girls VB Team travelled to
Durham yesterday for a match against rival Durham Academy.
The girls were a strong presence on the court in game one
setting up three hit plays consistently and serving well.
DA, also played a solid game to open the match. As a
result there were several lead changes with DA finally
gaining a 24-21 advantage. At that point
Rabiya Syed stepped up to serve and proceeded to win
six straight serves, with a little help on the court from
the other girls, to give the Chargers the 26-24 victory.
Using the tremendous momentum from game one, CA moved ahead
quickly against DA in game 2 behind continued consistent
serving and aggressive play on the court. Elizabeth
Carlton had another inspired day on the court with strong
support from the other 14 girls. This was CA's best
team effort to date. Great job Gold Girls.

CA @ Trinity Academy 0 - 2
The CA Gold VB Team travelled to
Optimist Park this afternoon for its rematch against Trinity
Academy. If you
saw the first match you saw CA get handily beaten by
Trinity.
In this rematch CA came out on the losing side again(2-0),
but this time Trinity had to work for the win.
CA’s serving and receiving was stronger and the girls
played with greater poise and confidence than in the first
meeting of the teams.
Also, there were no missed balls on the receiving end
and the girls worked hard to set up three hits on a side.
CA continues to improve and is looking forward to
visiting Durham Academy tomorrow.

CA hosts Duke School 1 - 2
The CA Gold Girl's VB Team lost 1-2 in
a tough match against Duke Middle School (DMS) yesterday
afternoon. CA looked sharp in the first game with a
consistent team effort serving and very solid play on the
floor that led to a 25-11 win. Unfortunately, in game
two DMS jumped out to an early lead. CA battled back
but was not able to overtake DMS. We lost 25-18.
DMS moved ahead early on in game three, but CA came back to
tie the score at 17-17 behind an excellent serving run by
Katie Birmingham-Corbett. The game stayed close, but
DMS pulled ahead in the end for a 25-21 victory. The
team effort was solid with notable personal performances by
Alyssa Potter and Alex McKay. Both girls served well
and played well on the court. The girls continue to
work hard as a unit with a focus on improving their skills
and implementing new techniques. Also, our play is
much more consistent with only occasional letdowns in
defense. We are looking forward to our upcoming
rematch against Trinity.

CA Gold Volleyball improved their
record to 2-3 with a solid win over Triangle Day School
(TDS) yesterday afternoon. CA jumped to an early lead
in game one behind the excellent serving of Daniella Ochoa
and Elizabeth Carlton. Their serving efforts were well
supported with solid floor play by the rest of the team.
the girls talked well and worked hard to set-up solid three
hit plays. CA went on to win the first game 25-11.
TDS stepped up their serving in game two and moved out ahead
of CA in the early going. CA battled back to tie the
game and eventually go ahead. Unfortunately, TDS was
able regain the lead and went on to win game two 25-19.
CA refocused it efforts in game three and put together
another excellent series of serves supported with solid play

joined by Jen Kenyon who had her best serving effort this

Rabiya Syed finished off at serve in the 25-1 victory.
Game two started a bit slower for CA with CC jumping
out to an early lead.

Also, the rest of the team did a very good job receiving

run to end the game with a 25-19 win.
Great job CA.

CA
hosts Neuse Baptist Christian School
Closer, just a little bit closer.
Each match, CA Gold Volleyball shows improvement, but
we still have not broke through with our first win.
On Friday, Sept. 7 played its third match in four
days against Neuse Baptist.
CA played well, but lost 0-2.
CA moved to the ball well, passed accurately and set
up the third hit more consistently.
However, in each of the games we lost, one server
dominated for Neuse Baptist.
Receiving serve consistently is still an area of
concern.
Within our overall solid team effort there were some notable
individual performances.
Daniella Ochoa,
Elizabeth Carlton, and Britanny Hatt had excellent
serving runs.
Alex McKay, Maryam Kazemzadeh and Jen Kenyon did
solid jobs receiving and passing.

CA hosts Bethesda Christian Academy 0 - 2
A much more confident and relaxed Gold
Girl's Volleyball team played its second match of the season
against Bethesda Christian Academy (BCA) yesterday
afternoon. CA came out very strong behind the serving
of Katie Birmingham-Corbett and Daniella Ochoa and excellent
court play by the rest of the team. CA took an early
lead, but BCA battled back with some serious overhand
serving. CA ended up losing game one 25-20. BCA
opened game two with a dominant serving run and CA quickly
got far behind. However, CA did not give up and using
solid play on the court with excellent serving runs by
Daniella Ochoa and Elizabeth
Carlton pulled close to BCA.
Unfortunately, CA was not able to overcome BCA's serving
prowess and lost the second game 25 - 19. The final
match score was 2-0 against CA.
Overall, CA's second outing of the season was a much
stronger performance over the first match. The girls
did a very good job of communicating and passing the ball.
Also, our serving at the team level was much more
consistent.

CA vs. Trinity Academy of Raleigh 0 - 2
The Gold Girls VB Team opened its
season yesterday with a 2-0 loss against Trinity Academy of
Raleigh.
The girls were tentative and nervous, but ready to play.
Daniella Ochoa started things off well with excellent
serving, but CA struggled receiving serve and quickly fell
behind in the first game.
As a result we dropped game one 25-6.
CA was more settled in game two and put together
several solid rallies, but our inexperience became our
downfall. Slow
movement and tentative receiving serve caused problems on
the court.
Trinity won game two 25-12.
On a positive note CA got additional excellent
serving from Alex McKay and Elizabeth Carlton and Rabiya
Syed and Emily Aarons did a solid job on the court.
CA is looking forward to continued improvement and
our next game on Thursday.
