In their final game of the season, the Middle School softball team fell once again to a very tough Crossroads Christian team.  The Crossroads pitching was too much as the Chargers could only muster one run in the 13-1 loss.  However, the Chargers kept the Crossroads bats at bay most of the game and showed tremendous strides in defense within the game itself; the girls made several nice catches in the outfield, the infield fielded several scorching ground balls and a runner was thrown out at third while trying to advance.

The girls have had a tremendous season this year and have worked hard and have shown marked improvement in their skills.  We will build upon these skills and the improvements and will come back even stronger next year.  Please take the time to congratulate the softball girls on a very nice season.

After a terrific start in the first inning, the Chargers had a few lapses in the field during the second which lead to seven Crossroad runs.  The defense rallied back for a shutout in the third, but again tired in the fourth and fifth innings.  The end result was an 18 -2 loss to Crossroads.  Offensively, the Chargers put together several good at bats against the Visitors who sported a very strong battery (catcher and pitcher combination).  Unfortunately several hard hit balls didn’t make their way through the opponents gloves.

The Chargers look to rebound today as they host Crossroads one more time to start the Triangle Middle School Conference Tournament.  The game starts at 3:30 – come out and watch for a few innings, you’ll have a great time.

May 2, 2008

After giving up 11 runs in the first two innings to Durham Academy, the Lady Chargers buckled down and played a tough defense led by three stellar plays from Marissa Sotolongo.  While the defense tightened --giving up only 1 run in the final three innings -- the bats came alive; pounding out nine hits.  In the end the Chargers left Durham with an 18-12 victory.

Plan to come out and watch the lady Chargers as they play host to a good Crossroads Christian team today (Monday).  The game will be the second part of a double header with the first game featuring Crossroads and North Raleigh Christian.  The Chargers should take the field around 4:15.  See you at the ballpark.

April 25, 2008

On Friday, the Charger softball team scored in every inning but one en route to a victory over Franklin Academy by a score of 13-8.  After losing to the Falcons last week, the Chargers came ready to play.  The girls shored up their defense and swung the bats aggressively; collecting 11 hits on the afternoon.  The lady Chargers look to carry their momentum into today’s game vs. a tough Crossroads Christian team.  The game will be played at CA, some come on out – we could use your support.

April 24, 2008

Yesterday the Chargers ran into the best pitcher / catcher tandem they have seen all year and as a consequence the Charger bats were held quiet in a 13-2 loss.  Unfortunately the typically reliable defense was also absent during the first two innings as the first nine runs of the game were unearned.  However, after the first few innings, the girls settled in and made some nice plays in the field, became more patient at the plate and started executing good aggressive base running.  The Chargers look to rebound today as they travel to Franklin Academy; please take the time to wish them good luck.

CA vs. Franklin Academy   14 - 16

In an exciting game, the Charger softball team fell just short of a win over Franklin Academy.  In a game that featured good hitting by both teams, the Chargers found themselves fighting back inning after inning.  However it was a six run deficit in the sixth inning that proved to be too much as the Chargers finished with the tying run left on second base and on the short end of a 16-14 score.

The Chargers will look to eliminate both physical and mental errors tomorrow before facing a tough Crossroads Christian team on Thursday.

CA vs. Durham Academy  16 - 2

Congratulations to the Middle School softball team as they downed arch rival Durham Academy yesterday by a score of 16-2.   The lady Chargers put together a 12 hit attack led by Tara Aida’s first home run of the season and they continued to pitch well, play strong defense and run the bases aggressively.  The Chargers look to build on their momentum as they head to Franklin Academy for a 4:00 game today; be sure to wish them good luck!

April 10, 2008
CA vs. North Raleigh Christian Academy 6 - 16

The softball team played their best game of the season today against the top team in the conference, North Raleigh Christian.  Despite falling behind 8-1, heads-up base-running and key hits put the Chargers to within two runs late in the game but that’s as close as it would get.  NRCA eventually put together a string of hits to keep a strong lead and top the Chargers 16-6.  It was great having a nice crowd at the game.  We hope you will continue to come out and support us again next Thursday as we battle our rival – Durham Academy.  You’ll see great pitching, strong defense, aggressive base-running and a lot of heart.  See you there!

CA @ Franciscan School 18 - 13

Congratulations to the girls softball team as they defeated the Franciscan Timberwolves yesterday by a score of 18-13.  The Lady Chargers played sound defense, were disciplined at the plate and ran the bases aggressively en route to the win.  We hope you plan to come out and watch the girls take on North Raleigh Christian today at 4:30.  We could always use the support.

April 3, 2008
CA vs. Ravenscroft   1 - 18

The cold, wet rain didn’t add to the fun of yesterday’s game.  Once the Lady Chargers made it through the first inning, a flicker of light began to glow as the pitching improved, strong defensive plays were made and the team began to eliminate mental mistakes.  Unfortunately by that time the deficit was too big for our struggling bats as the Chargers were outscored by the Ravens 18-1.  The Chargers will look to build on the momentum found at the end of yesterday’s game as they head to Franklin today for a 4:30 start.  We hope to see you there.

CA @ Ravenscroft

Yesterday at Ravenscroft, the Charger softball team took the loss against the Ravens Junior Varsity team.  Despite the loss the Chargers improved their aggressiveness on the base paths and continued to make contact with tough pitches.  The Chargers also received terrific defensive efforts from short stop Tara Aida and first baseman Quinn Jenkins in the loss.  The Chargers look to rebound in their game next Tuesday again at the Ravens.
