CA Gold – 0
Bethesda Christian – 2

The CA Gold Girl's Soccer team played the Bethesda Christian Academy girls for the TMSC Division III tournament championship Friday afternoon.  Both teams played with great intensity, both teams played well and both teams put forth a tremendous effort.  Unfortunately, only one team can win.  And Friday, that team was Bethesda; pulling off a 2-0 victory to take the tournament 1st place trophy and leaving CA with the runner-up trophy.   The CA girls continued to demonstrate the hard work they did in practice with solid passing, good defense, excellent communication and maintaining their desire to score and win to the very end.  We had many runs to goal, but the BCA defense kept our solid shot opportunities limited.  BCA was able to punch in one goal in each half .  Otherwise, the CA defense, led by Shelley Warner at sweeper and Sam Amick in goal, was able to deny BCA any other scoring opportunities.  CA ends the season with an overall 9-2-2 record.  The girls accomplished much this year and have a lot to be proud of as individual players and as a team.  Great job this year CA!

CA Gold – 1
St. Tim’s – 5

Alas, on a warm Friday afternoon, the Gold Girl's Soccer teams' undefeated run came to an end against a strong St. Timothy squad.  The St. Tim's team brought speed, excellent ball work, and solid passing to the game.  CA rose to the challenge and played with intensity.  CA opened up attacking the St. Tim's goal and was able to take a 1-0 lead at around the ten minute mark on an excellent shot from Ruchi Desai.  Ten minutes later, St. Tim's was able to even the score on a direct kick from 20 yards out.  The game continued back and forth until St. Tim's was able to score the go ahead goal as time ran out in the first half.  CA continued to pressure the St. Tim's goal in the second half, but was not able to convert any of its shots.  St. Tim's was able to add 3 more goals in the second to bring the final score to 5-1.  Even in the losing effort, CA continued to play solid team soccer.  The girls maintained space, supported on defense and worked the passing game well.  And most importantly, their maintained their intensity and drive to the final whistle.  Special kudos goes to Megan Hutzenbuhler, Kathleen Baryenbrcuh and Alsey Davidson for their work up front moving the ball and communicating.  The CA Gold Girl's close out a very successful 2008 season with a 8-1-2 record and look forward to the upcoming TMSC tournament.

CA Gold - 3
Trinity Acad. – 0

On another beautiful day for soccer the CA Gold Girls played their final TMSC game against Trinity Academy Thursday afternoon.  The Lady Chargers were ready to play and came out of the gate strong.  During the first half the CA offense attacked Trinity’s goal relentlessly and the defense prevented Trinity from mounting any organized pushes on the CA goal.   Megan Hutzenbuhler opened the scoring with an excellent individual effort ending with a solid shot from 12 yards out.  CA quickly followed with a second goal from the right side by Alsey Davidson off of an assist by Megan Hutzenbuhler.  The half ended 2-0.  CA continued to keep up the pace in the second half with Megan Hutzenbuhler scoring the third goal off of another super individual effort.  CA won the game 3-0, thus securing first place in the conference (Division III) and remaining undefeated in conference play.  The girls put together their best team effort of the season.  The defense supported each other and made excellent clears.  Also, the midfield controlled the center of the field and did a great job of supporting the forwards.  Additionally, the front line did a super job bringing the ball down wing and setting up the center.  The team communicated, passed well and played with intensity from start to finish.  Great job CA!

Cary Christian  - 0

On a hot and sunny afternoon the CA Gold Girls Soccer team traveled down the road to Cary Christian School (CCS) for their 9th game of the season.  CA started slow against CCS, but slowly picked up momentum.  CA was setting up passes well and moving the ball, but was having trouble finishing their pushes on the CCS goal.  Finally, late in the first half, Kathleen Baryenbruch opened the scoring to give CA a 1-0 lead.  Ruchi Desai added a second and Megan Hutzenbuhler contributed a 3rd goal to end the half with a 3-0 lead.  CA came out much stronger in the second half with better communication and team work on the field.  Shelley Warner was able to quickly add a fourth goal off an excellent individual run.  Elizabeth Carlton scored the fifth, and final goal, with about 10 minutes left and the Chargers went on to win 5-0.  Once again the CA girls put in an excellent team effort with 10 girls combining for over 25 shots.  The Gold girls improve their record to 7-0-2.  Great job CA!!

CA Gold Soccer – 2
Trinity Academy – 1

The CA Gold Girls Soccer team improved their record to 6-0-2 with a tough fought 2-1 victory over Trinity Academy.  CA came out a bit flat and Trinity was very motivated, as a result Trinity was able to put some serious pressure on the CA goal early in the game.  Fortunately, the CA defense was up to the challenge and was able to prevent Trinity from getting off any solid shots.  CA finally picked up the pace and Alsey Davidson was able to take an excellent cross from the left by Kathleen Baryenbruch and put it in the Trinity goal for a 1-0 lead.  Trinity came out with renewed vigor in the second half and was able to tie the score off of a direct kick from 20 yards out.   With the score tied 1-1, CA retook the lead on a solid goal by Megan Hutzenbuhler with 10 minutes left to play.  CA was able to hold the lead for the remainder of the game for the victory.  Once again the mid-field made up of Ruchi Desai, Bailey Plymyer and Rachel Earnhardt with contributions from Sydney Rubin and Britanny Walker did a great contesting the middle of the field.  CA continues to work well as a team with every player making solid contributions to win.

CA Gold – 5
Sallie B. Howard – 0

On a absolutely fabulous Thursday afternoon the CA Gold Girls Soccer Team took to the pitch for their seventh game of the season.  Today's opponent was Sallie B. Howard (SBH) middle school hailing from Wilson.  The visitors were enthusiastic and played with great intensity, however, CA was able to dominate the game, keeping the ball on SBH side of the field most of the game.  Eight players combined for over 20 shots on goal.  Megan Hutzenbuhler opened the scoring with a well placed direct kick from 18 yards out about halfway into the 1st half.  Kathleen Baryenbruch followed with a shot from left a few minutes later and Ruchi Desai finished the 1st half scoring on an excellent individual run at goal.  Ten minutes into the second half Kjersti Kleine added the forth goal with an excellent blast from 20 yards and Bailey Plymyer added the final goal off of an assist by Sophie Robison.  The final score was 5-0.  CA continues to perform well as a team with excellent passing from mid-field to the forwards.  The defense continued their strong consistent play by keeping SBH from mounting any sort of consistent attack.  Great Job, CA!!

CA Gold – 1
Bethesda Christian – 1

The CA Gold Girls Soccer team played at Bethesda Christian(BC) for their sixth game of the season.  Both teams came out hungry and played an aggressive well-executed game.  CA made several strong pushes on the BC goal, but were unable to finish with solid shots.  In return BC had several excellent shots on goal but Sam Amick in goal and the rest of the CA defense was able to keep them scoreless in the first half.  Both teams came out in the second half with an increased intensity, but neither side were able to score until Kathleen Baryenbruch put a shot in with 10 minutes left in the half.  The game continued back-n-forth until, with a minute left, a BC player broke free and was able to put in a shot to even the score.  The game ended in a 1-1 tie.  CA played another excellent team game with good field movement and solid communication.  It is difficult to pick out any single outstanding player when everybody was doing such a great job, but special "props" must go to the midfield composed of Bailey Plymyer, Rachel Earnhardt and  Ruchi Desai for their superior play.  Great job, Chargers!

CA Gold – 4
Grace Christian – 0

On a very cold, blustery afternoon the CA Gold Soccer team played their fifth game of the season in an away match with Grace Christian (GC) of Sanford.  CA carried a 3-0-1 record into the game and came out of the game 4-0-1 with a 4-0 win.  The game started out with CA aggressively attacking the GC goal.  Alsey Davidson and Kathleen Barybruch made an excellent run on goal and ended up opening the scoring due to a goalie error on a joint shot.  Kathleen Barybruch quickly followed up with two more goals to give CA a 3-0 lead.  GC made some adjustments on the field and was able to slow down the CA attack significantly.  The first half ended 3-0.  GC came out strong in the second half and was able to mount several significant pushes on the CA goal.  Sam Amick had a great day in goal stopping nine shots and making several spectacular saves in the process.  The game quickly settled down into a back-n-forth affair with both teams pushing the ball down field.  Megan Hutzenbuhler was able to add one final goal midway in the second half on an excellent break away to lock down the CA win.  The Gold girls played a very solid game, once again, and worked as a team to secure the victory.  Special recognition goes to Bailey Plymyer and Lauren Pederson for their excellent play on defense.  Great job, CA.

CA Gold Soccer – 0
Wake Christian – 0

Yesterday afternoon the CA Gold Girl’s Soccer team played their second game of the season, FINALLY!  The CA girls were a little rusty due to the long break as they took on a very aggressive Wake Christian (WC) squad.  CA did a solid job passing up front, but the WC defense was very strong so we were unable to mount a consistent attack.  Also, WC did a good job of winning the ball at mid-field.  However, while our offense struggled, our defense stepped up.  Defensively, Shelley Warner and Elizabeth Carlton did a great job anchoring the center and Channing Stuart and Lauren Pederson were super on the outside.   Additionally, Samantha Amick had an outstanding debut in goal making 19 saves.   It was a tough game as CA came away with a 0-0 tie.  CA is looking forward to meeting Cary Christian tomorrow.

CA-3, BCA-1

The CA Gold Girls soccer team opened the season on an absolutely beautiful Thursday afternoon at home against Bethesda Christian Academy.  The first half was a back-n-forth affair with both teams making excellent runs at goal, but neither team scoring.  The half ended tied 0-0.  CA picked up the pace in the second half and through solid team and individual effort Megan Hutzenbuhler was able to punch in the first score two minutes into the second half.  Through excellent passing and solid midfield support, Megan was able to add a second score a few minutes later.  BCA responded with intense pressure on the CA goal.  However, the CA defense led by Ashley Allen was able to prevent BCA from getting many shots on goal.  Unfortunately, BCA was able to score with 12 minutes left in the half bringing the score to 2-1.  The CA girls maintained their poise and continued to pressure the BCA goal.  Megan was able to break free for one final goal and to earn a hat-trick.  The final score was 3-1 in favor of CA.  The Gold Girls played well in the opener with a solid team effort.   Special commendations go to the midfielders, anchored by Shelley Warner, Bailey Plymyer and Sydney Kalin.  They did a great job of transitioning the ball from defense to offense and supporting the forwards.  Also, Kathleen Baryenbruch had an excellent day at keeper making several exciting saves.
