The Chargers fought hard in their first State Tournament appearance but came up short.

Down 6-1 after the 1st CA played a solid 2nd quarter and trailed 8-3 at the half.

Charlotte Latin scored 5 unanswered goals in the 3rd to put the game out of reach.

CA 7   Ravenscroft 6

 

 A Senior Night Special for the Chargers. CA showed they have what it takes to win a close game.

Ravenscroft lead 3-1 after 1 and 4-2 at the half. The Chargers scored 5 goals in the 3rd to take a 7-6 lead and after a scoreless 4th quarter the Chargers were victorious.

A special thanks to all our fans, that was the loudest crowd we have had all year and your support really helped the team earn the win.

The Chargers three wins this week earned them a #6 seed in the State Tournament and they will play Charlotte Latin on Tuesday 5/13 at 5:00pm in Charlotte.

CA 12  Cannon School 10

 

A great win for the Chargers and another close contest. CA trailed 5-3 after 1 quarter but fought back for a 6-6 halftime tie. The Chargers took a 8-7 lead into the 4th quarter and never trailed in the 4th. The score was tied at 8-8 and 9-9 but three unanswered goals by the Chargers put them ahead 12-9 with 2:15 left and CA held on for the victory.

CA 7  Greensboro Day 6

 

Another close game for the Chargers. The score was tied 1-1 after 1 quarter. Greensboro Day took a 3-1 lead into halftime. The Chargers were down 6-2 with 5:50 to go in the third. The Chargers continued to play hard with confidence that they had the ability and talent to come back. The defense played strong for the remainder of the 3rd and the 4th quarter not allowing Greensboro to score, as the offense moved the ball and created scoring opportunities cutting into the Greensboro lead. David Sierra tied the game at 6-6 with 4:31 left and Connor Smithson scored the game winner with 4 seconds to go.

Durham Academy 15  Cary Academy 1

 

A tough game for the Chargers as CA was outplayed in every aspect of the game.

1st quarter score 3-0

Half-time         9-0

Drew Killmer and Ben Sawchak combined for 18 saves.

 

The Chargers will look to rebound with 3 games next week.

Cary Academy 11  Cape Fear 10

 

Another close contest for the Chargers but this time the Chargers were victorious. A slow start for both teams as the score after one quarter was 1-1. CA then played a great second quarter hustling for ground balls and moving the ball well on offense to take a 8-2 half time lead.

Cape Fear showed no quit and scored two quick goals to open the third. CA took a 10-8 lead into the 4th.

CA took an 11-8 lead with 5:57 left but Cape Fear responded with two goals and cut the lead to 1 with 4:19 to play. The Chargers were able to play solid defense to close the game with a win.

Ravenscroft 11  CA 10  2nd overtime

 

A tough loss for the Chargers who were in a seesaw battle for the entire game. Ravenscroft jumped out to a 3-0 lead and CA answered with the 1st quarter ending at 3-3. CA took a lead of 7-4 into halftime but Ravenscroft came back to tie the score at 7-7 going into the 4th. Ravenscroft took the lead in the 4th.  CA tied the score at 8-8 with 8:44 remaining and then took the lead 9-8 with 8:08 to go. Ravenscroft tied the score at 2:31 and took a 10-9 lead with :43 left. CA's Michael Kahn tied the game with .06 to send it to OT.

CA had several scoring chances in the first OT but could not get the ball in the net.

With 2:36 left in the second OT Ravenscroft scored the game winner.

Forsyth Country Day 10  CA 8

 

A close contest for the entire game with two evenly matched teams playing hard for the whole game.

The score was 6-6 at the half. FCDS was able to pull ahead in the 3rd quarter with 3 unanswered goals.

Durham Academy 9  CA 4

 

After allowing 5 goals in the first 6 minutes the Charger defense tightened up and goalie Andrew Killmer made some outstanding saves to keep CA in the game. The offense was unable to mount a Charger comeback. The entire team played a solid game after the first opening minutes.

A tough day for the Chargers as the offense did not capitalize on many scoring chances and the defense allowed too many easy goals.

The Chargers got off to a quick start with great ball movement and some solid defensive plays that resulted in fast break goals. Halftime score CA 10 CC 1.

CA continued to hustle and fight for ground balls in the second half and finished with a 16-9 victory.

Cape Fear 14 Cary Academy 7

 

 

A slow start for the Chargers as some missed opportunities and several defensive lapses resulted in the Chargers being down 5-1 after 1 and 10-2 at the half.

CA showed a no quit attitude opening the second half with two goals in under 30 seconds but ended the third trailing 12-5. The defense improved in the second half but the offense could not close the gap. Final score CF 14 CA 7

A hard fought victory for the Chargers. The score was even at 2 at halftime. CA fell behind 4-2 in the third quarter then came back with 6 unanswered goals, then held on for a 8-6 win.

The Chargers got off to fast start scoring 5 goals in the first quarter. CA took a 7-2 lead into halftime. CA added 6 more goals in the second half to win 13-6. Overall a good team effort with the defense playing strong in front of goalies Bill Wagner and Drew Killmer, while the offense moved the ball well and took advantage of scoring opportunities.

Greensboro Day 6  CA 4

 

A tough game for the Chargers. After playing a solid first half CA held a 4-1 lead.

At the end of 3 quarters CA was still ahead 4-2. Some missed opportunities coupled with a couple of penalties allowed Greensboro to tie the score at 4 with 7:53 to play. Greensboro Day took the lead at the 2:07 mark and added an insurance goal with .36 to go.

CA 7  Northern Durham 2

 

The Chargers win their season opener with a solid defensive effort. The defense, anchored by Ben Sawchuk in goal, played strong throughout the entire game and allowed the offense to work through some early missed opportunities and come on strong in the final period. A defensive battle early as Northern Durham had a 1-0 lead after one, with CA taking a 2-1 lead into halftime. CA was up 3-2 going into the 4th quarter and netted 4 unanswered goals to put the game out of reach.
