TISAC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP GAME @ CA VS.
RAVENSCROFT
RAV – 59
CA – 51
CA took on #3 state ranked Ravenscroft
tonight in the TISAC Tournament championship game before a
full house. The
final was 59 – 51 Ravens, but the young and much smaller
Chargers played with the Ravens until the very end in a hard
fought, emotional game.
CA came out in the first period and
executed their game almost to perfection, as they led 9 – 8
at the end of the period.
The Chargers spread the floor on offense to try and
force the larger Ravens to come out of their zone and play
them man to man.
This worked very well as CA got some easy baskets to fall
early and then had some tough luck shooting as a number of
shots were “in the hole” but fell out.
Defensively, CA played multiple defenses, using full
& ¼ court man to man, ¼ court zones and full court zone
presses. This
confused Ravenscroft and took them out of their normal
offense sets, causing them to take shots they do not
normally take.
The second period saw the Ravens make
some offensive adjustments, most notably using their inside
size advantage, t win the period 19 -8, to lead 27 – 17 at
the half. CA
again had a number
of shots that were in & out, hurting the offensive
effort. After
some adjustments of their own at the half, the Chargers came
out and had Ravenscroft reeling, winning the quarter 18 –
12, to pull within 39 – 35 at the break.
A switch to a ½ court trap be CA really befuddled the
Ravens, and CA converted a number of steals into baskets.
The fourth quarter was back and forth
and the game really was not decided until the last 1:05 to
play, when the Chargers were forced to foul in an attempt to
get the ball back.
Ravenscroft hit 14 of 22 foul shots in the period to
seal the win.
Leading CA tonight were Chris Council
with 13 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots,
Cameron Walton with 11 points and 3 steals, Jimmy Joyner
with 10 points, Nick Debnam with 9 points, 7 assists and 3
steal and Stuart Gordon with 8 points and 5 rebounds.
I cannot say enough about the heart and
commitment that our student
athletes showed tonight.
They believed in the game plan and came out ready to
play, convinced they could win.
Well, they almost did.
While a loss is never a good thing, there were many
positives tonight, not the least of which is the confidence
gained by all 15 members of the team in their ability to
play the game with a team of Ravenscroft’s caliber.
As a coaching staff, we cannot find the right words
to express how proud we are of these young men.
We would once again like to say “THANK YOU”
to all of the parents, faculty / staff, administration,
students and X – Factor for their support, not only last
night, but all season.
As a team we have fed off the energy that you have
provided to us
and it has made a huge difference in our play.
The Chargers now await the
outcome of this Sunday’s state seeding committee meeting to
see if we will receive a bid to the NCISAA state tournament.
We hope to know sometime around 3 PM and we are
hoping for good news.
If we do receive a bid, our next game would be
Tuesday, February 19th at a site to be
determined, but it would be on the road.
CA finishes the regular season with a over all record of 14
– 14, 5 – 3 in TISAC play.

TISAC Tourney
Semi Finals vs. Durham Academy
In OVERTIME
CA – 65
DA – 64
In the semi finals of the 2007 – 08 TISAC tournament, CA
held on in overtime to defeat Durham Academy for the third
time this season, 65 – 64.
The Chargers are now 14 – 13 over all and 5 – 2 in
TISAC play.
In what can only be described as a
outstanding high school basketball game, the Chargers
had their first overtime contest of the season vs. the
Cavaliers. The
Chargers jumped out to a 13 – 3 lead with 50 seconds left in
the first period.
Two defensive lapses allowed DA to score two baskets
and cut the margin to 15 – 7 at the end of the period.
CA played outstanding defense overall for the period
and got 2 - 3 point baskets from Cameron Walton.
The second period saw the Chargers not
be able to buy a basket, as it seemed a lid was put on the
rim. DA took advantage and outscored CA 23 – 13, to lead 30
– 28 at the half.
CA was still playing good defense, but became
frustrated on the offensive end and this did lead to
defensive breakdowns.
The third period was again a
defensive one on both sides, as CA won the quarter,
10 -7, to lead 38 – 37.
Both teams got good shots, but excellent defensive
rebounding by both teams limited each side to one shot and
out. The fourth
period was once again, a defensive one, but both teams were
able to score when it mattered the most.
CA had a six point lead with 1:51 to play but DA made
6 of 8 foul shots to tie the game at 55 – 55 and send it
into overtime.
In the extra stanza, the Chargers
jumped out to a quick 59 – 55 lead and, led by senior Nick
Debnam’s 4 of 5 at the foul line, pulled out the 65 – 64
win. CA showed
poise in the last 30 seconds as they ran down the clock and
did not turn the ball over to DA.
Leading the Chargers tonight were Nick
Debnam with 6 points (all in overtime), 4 assists and 4
steals, Chris Council with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 4
steals and Cameron Walton with 14 points.
CA got great contributions from Jimmy Joyner with 8
points, and Alexander Stuart with 8 points and 4 rebounds.
The Chargers and coaches would like to say “Thank You” to
the parents, faculty / staff and X Factor that were in
attendance. You
were fantastic tonight!
Our next game is Friday night, February 15th,
8:00 PM, here at CA vs. Ravenscroft for the TISAC Tournament
Championship.
The team would like to encourage all of the CA student body
to come out to the game,
dressed in blue & gold,
to support them as they play for the title here in
our own gym.
Admission to the conference tournament for CA
students will be 2 people for $5.00!
The concession
stand will be open and it will be a great night of
basketball so everybody come on out and help the Chargers as
they attempt to win the gold!

TISAC Game @ RAVENSCROFT
RAV – 80
CA – 64
Tonight, the chargers traveled to
Ravenscroft in a showdown for the TISAC regular season
title. CA gave
the Ravens all they could handle before finally falling, 80
– 64.
As in last weeks game at CA, the Ravens
came out strong in the first period, hitting 2 – 3 pointers
and getting 10 points in the paint.
The Chargers trailed 23 – 8 at the end of the period,
but got great shots inside that just would not fall.
The second period saw CA win the scoring battle, 20 –
16 to cut the Ravens lead to 39 – 28 at the half.
The Chargers were led in the period by freshman
Cameron Walton with 7 points on 2 – 3 pointers (one of these
was a rare 4 point play).
Senior Stuart Gordon and freshman Jimmy Joyner each
had 5 points in the period.
A few defensive adjustments at halftime
enabled the Chargers to come out in the third and cut the
Ravenscroft lead to 6 points.
CA hit their shots and defended well for the first 6
minutes of the period.
It was here that Ravenscroft junior Ryan Kelly showed
why he is being recruited by Duke, as he scored 14 points in
the period to bump the lead back to 11 points.
The fourth quarter saw both teams play to their
strengths, as the Ravens pounded the ball inside and the
Chargers ran their break and hit a couple 3’s.
While CA again cut the lead to 8 points, Ravenscroft
had the answer inside and put the game away in the last
2:30.
Leading the Chargers tonight were
Stuart Gordon with 14 points, 4 rebounds, Cameron Walton
with 13 points on 3 – 3 pointers, Jon Lohr with 12 points, 4
rebounds and Jimmy Joyner with 11 points.
Nick Debnam had 7 assists and 2 steals.

2/5/08 @ FCDS
FCDS – 64
CA – 32
In our poorest performance of the
season, the Chargers fell to FCDS 64 – 32.
After jumping out to a 11 – 2 lead, CA did not
respond to the Furies ½ court trap and turned the ball over
a total of 20 times, leading to a number of FCDS points.
As a coaching staff and team, the fault for this
effort is shared by all of us and we will work to see that
it does not happen again.
CA looks to rebound from this effort
this Friday, as they travel to Ravenscroft for our final
TISAC regular season game.
The Chargers trail the Ravens by 1 game in the
standings and can tie them for 1st place in the
conference with a win.

HOME VS. RAVENSCROFT
TISAC GAME / SENIOR NIGHT 2008
RAV – 69
CA – 51
Senior Night 2008 saw the Chargers take
on the #3 state ranked Ravens of Ravenscroft, in a match up
of undefeated TISAC teams, both at 4 - 0.
The young and much shorter Chargers gave the Ravens
all they wanted in the game, but finally fell, 69 – 51.
The Chargers came out with an abundance
of energy (perhaps too much) and, while they played hard,
they made a number of defensive mistakes which the Ravens
capitalized on with 4 – 3 point baskets in the 1st
period on their way to a 25 – 12 lead.
This margin would prove to be the difference as CA
played pretty much even the rest of the way.
The Ravens are well coached and drilled in
fundamentals and it showed throughout the game.
They answered every run the Chargers had in them.
The second period was played to a
standstill at 11 each, as CA regained their poise and
battled back to make it a 13 point game at the half.
The second half saw the Chargers come out and cut the
margin to 3 points with a 16 – 4 run.
It was here that the Ravens reestablished their size
advantage inside to pull ahead 53 – 36 at the end of the
third. CA would
not give up however and kept the game close at 10 points
until the final 130, when with a 15 point deficit, the
Chargers emptied
the bench on Senior night.
It was great to see senior Jared Carson on the floor
again after missing the past 15 games with a back injury
(Jared even hit a 3 pointer).
While no loss is a good thing, the
Chargers come out of this matchup knowing how close they
really are to being a top 10 team themselves and look
forward to the re – match next Friday at Ravenscroft.
CA was led by Senior Nick Debnam with
19 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals, Freshman
Cameron Walton with 17 points on 4 – 3 pointers and Senior
Stuart Gordon with 6 points.
The Chargers also got great efforts from junior Jon
Lohr with 4 rebounds and sophomore James Link with 3
rebounds and good defense.
Coach Jordan would like to take this opportunity to publicly say
“THANK YOU” to the Senior class of 2008.
While they did not have to, they embraced me from the
start and bought into the philosophy brought to them, both
on and off the court.
I am extremely proud to be your coach and of each of
you as people. I
know that you will all be tremendously successful in
whatever path you choose in life.
Thanks for a great year (although the final chapter
has yet to be written)!
The team and coaches would like to thank our parents, especially the
senior parents, for their support this season and in the
past. We were
thrilled to be able to honor you before the game in an
emotional Senior Night ceremony.
We would also like to thank the numerous other fans
who attended, including a number of faculty / staff, our
cheerleaders and of course, X – Factor.
We truly appreciate all that you do for our team!
CA is now 13 – 11 over all and 4 – 1 in TISAC play.

Home vs. Durham Academy
TISAC Game
CA – 82
DA – 72
Tonight, the Chargers took a giant
stride in their development as a team and a program by
defeating arch rival and TISAC foe, Durham Academy, 82 – 72.
CA moves to 13 – 10 over all and 4 – 0 in TISAC play,
tied for 1st place.
CA came out with intensity as we opened
up a 17 – 5 lead with 335 to play in the first.
A 12 – 2 run by DA cut the margin to 23 – 19 at the
quarter. The Chargers were led in the period by Jon Lohr
with 6 points, Christian Council with 6 points and Cameron
Walton with 5 points.
The second & third periods saw the
Chargers open up a 10 point lead behind the consistent
inside play of Chris Council and penetration of Jimmy Joyner
and Nick Debnam.
CA held their own on the boards against the aggressive
Cavaliers and actually out rebounded them for the game by 2.
In the fourth period, both teams seemed
to pick up their offensive intensity and though it seemed
that not a lot of defense was being played, each basket was
difficult to achieve.
Chris Council led the way with 12 points in the
period, followed by Jimmy Joyner with 5 points.
Over all, CA was lead by Chris Council
with 25 points and 13 rebounds, Nick Debnam with 14 points,
5 assists and 4 steals, Jimmy Joyner with 13 points and 5
rebounds and Jon Lohr with 10 points and 4 rebounds.
We got a great effort and some key plays from Bradley
Roberts and Cameron Walton in the second half.
The Chargers are tied for 1st
place in the TISAC at 4 – 0 with 2 conference games
remaining.
Friday, February 1st is
Senior Night. We
will honor our senior men’s & women’s basketball players and
our cheerleaders in a ceremony prior to the varsity men’s
game. Please
come out to support our seniors and the team as a whole.

Home vs. NRCA
TISAC Game
CA – 61
NRCA – 50
The Chargers hosted the Knights of NRCA
tonight in their third TISAC game.
CA came away with the gutty win, 61 – 50, to
improve to 12 – 10 over all and 3 – 0 in the
conference, tied for 1st place.
In what was a defensive game on both
sides, CA put the clamps down on the Knights by switching
from the press / man to press / zone to a full man to man.
This seemed to confuse the Knights and did not allow
them to get into a rhythm on offense.
The Chargers forced 20 NRCA turnovers which they
converted in 19 points.
Offensively, CA struggled a bit as well
in the half court but found a groove in the 2nd &
4th periods to put the game away.
Leading the Chargers were Stuart Gordon with 25
points and 8 rebounds, Nick Debnam with 17 points, 4 assists
and 4 steals and Jimmy Joyner with 13 points and 3 rebounds.
Playing big roles for CA tonight were Charlie
Stutesman with 5 rebounds and Anirudh Kota with 3 points and
4 rebounds.
The coaches and team would like to thank the fans, parents and X –
Factor for their tremendous support.

1/23/08 @ Kestrel Heights
CA – 74
KH – 54
The Chargers traveled to Kestrel
Heights tonight to take on the Hawks in a rematch of our
homecoming game.
After a slow start in the first period, CA pulled away in
the middle two periods by outscoring KH 42 – 18 on their way
to a 74 – 54 win.
The Chargers record is now 11 – 10 overall and 2 – 0
in TISAC play.
CA had a number of good looks at the
basket in the first period but could not convert them into
points. Credit
the Hawks for playing tough on the offensive end and keeping
it close. The
second and third periods saw CA turn up their defensive
pressure (FH had 28 total turnovers for the game) and
convert in transition to open up a 22 point lead.
Another big factor was CA’s 43 – 27 edge on the
boards as this assisted the transition game.
Leading the Chargers were Stuart Gordon
with 22 points (4 – 3 pointers), Nick Debnam with 11 points,
13 assists (breaking his school record of 12) and 6 steals,
Jimmy Joyner with 11 points and 4 steals and Christian
Council with 13 points and 7 rebounds.
Charlie Stutesman continued to improve daily with 4
points, 5 rebounds and a blocked shot.
Anirudh Kota chipped in with 5 points and 5 rebounds
and Jon Lohr had 5 points and 3 rebounds.
The Chargers are gearing up for a 3
game, TISAC home stand starting this Friday night when they
host NRCA @ 730 PM.
Currently, CA is tied for first place in the TISAC
with Ravenscroft, so be sure to come out to support the
Chargers.

1/18/08 @ Durham Academy
TISAC game #2
CA – 77
DA – 61
Tonight the Chargers took another step
in TISAC play with a dominating 77 – 61 win over arch rival
Durham Academy.
CA is now 10 – 10
overall and 2 – 0 in TISAC play.
CA came out ready to play tonight.
The Chargers jumped out 4 – 0 but the Cavs came back
to tie the game at 5 – 5.
This was the last tie / lead change of the night as
CA went on a 12 – 5 run to end the first period leading 17 –
10. The second
period was more of the same, as CA outscored their hosts 20
– 13 to lead 37 – 23 at the half.
Jimmy Joyner lead the first half surge with 11 points
and Nick Debnam had 7 points.
The Chargers made sure not to let DA
back into the game in the third period by outscoring them 23
– 11 to lead 59 – 34 at the end of the third.
The lead swelled to 26 points at one time and CA
emptied the bench for the last four minutes of the game.
Defense was the key all evening as DA
had 28 turnovers for the game which led to a number of easy
points for CA.
It was a real team effort on the defensive end, as 10 CA
players had at least 1 steal each.
The other area of excellence for the Chargers was
rebounding, as we won the battle of the boards 35 – 30.
These two areas were key as that is where we felt we
lost the game to DA in the holiday tourney.
Leading CA were Nick Debnam with 14
points, 12 assists (ties his own school record) and 5
steals, Jimmy Joyner with 14 points and 4 rebounds,
Christian Council with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals
and Stuart Gordon with 11 points and 2 steals.
The leading rebounder for CA was Charlie Stutesman
with 8 total to go with 2 blocked shots.
Anirudh Kota chipped in with 6 points and 4 rebounds,
while Cameron Walton had 8 points, 2 assists and 2 steals
and Alexander Stuart had 4 points and 4 rebounds.
This was a true team win tonight as all
12 Chargers contributed to the effort.
We had carryover from practice into the game and the
commitment was outstanding.
A HUGE “Thank You” to all of the
parents and students (great job X – Factor) who attended the
game. We could
have done this without you!

CPCHS – 76
CA – 71
The Chargers fell short tonight against
a very athletic Lions squad, 76 – 71.
After leading 15 – 13 at the end of the first period,
CA was outscored 20 – 10 in the second period to trail 33 –
25 at the half.
The Chargers had 16 turnovers at the half (CA averages 15
per game) and this led to a number of CPCHS baskets in
transition.
At the end of three periods, CA trailed
56 – 45 and just could not get the defensive stops when
needed. The
Lion’s lead ballooned to 18 points, 68 – 50 with 4:33 left
in the game. It
was here that the Chargers woke up on the defensive end and
cut the leads to 2 points, 70 – 68, with 45 seconds left.
From here, the Lions made their foul shots and CA
missed a couple baskets and could not finish off the come
back.
Leading CA were freshman Jimmy
Joyner with 22 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals,
senior Nick Debnam with 15 points, 9 assists and 4 steals,
junior Christian Council with 10 points and 4 rebounds and
senior Stuart Gordon with 13 points and 3 rebounds.

CA @ Charlotte Christian
CCS: 77
CA: 47
Today the Chargers took on the #3
ranked Knights @ CCS.
In an excellent first half of
basketball, CA trailed 42 – 27.
While there was a deficit, the Chargers played very
well on offense as they executed their break and half court
sets. While the
defense could / should have been better, the coaching staff
was pleased with where we were at that point.
The second half saw CCS turn the ball
over on their first 6 possessions.
This was a great opportunity for CA to get back into
the game quickly.
Unfortunately, the Chargers turned the ball over 3
times and missed 3 shots and did not make up any ground.
While CA’s defense was much improved (allowing 13
points), the offense could not get untracked and we did not
score until 50 seconds left in the period.
The fourth period was played evenly, but the outcome
was decided by the third period (CA trailed 55 – 27).
CA was led by Nick Debnam with 13
points, Cameron Walton with 11 points and Jimmy Joyner with
10 points.
In the coaching staff’s opinion,
Charlotte Christian is one of the two best teams that we
have played to date.

The Chargers fell tonight 78 – 60 to
the #9 ranked Buccaneers on the road.
This was a strange game, as the Bucs had a twenty
point lead in the second half, but the Chargers never felt
out of the game.
The first half was a track meet, as
both teams scored almost at will and the defense’s were not
prepared for the pace of the game.
CA had a season high 20 turnovers for the game and
this did not help the effort.
Cameron Walton and Nick Debnam each had 8 points in
the half as the Chargers made a game of it.
The second half was a different game as
both teams played much improved defense and the scoring went
down CA cut the
lead down to 9 points, but could not get any closer as the
Bucs hit key baskets in the fourth period.
While no loss is a good thing, the coaching staff was
very pleased with the intensity and effort against a
traditionally strong program.
Leading CA were freshman Cameron Walton
with 16 points, 2 assists, freshman Jimmy Joyner with 16
points, 5 rebounds and Nick Debnam with 11 points and 3

CA @ NRCA 69 – 59
For the second straight night, CA came
out flat and did not have a productive 1st half,
as the score was tied at 24 apiece.
Once again, a lack of intensity on the defensive end,
coupled with a lack of movement on offense slowed the
Chargers down.
However, the Chargers rebounded in the 2nd half
to win 69 – 59, to go
9 – 7 overall and 1 – 0 in
TISAC play.
The 3rd quarter saw more of
the same from CA and, to be honest, things did not look good
with 3:21 left in the period as NRCA had stretched a lead to
38 – 28. At this
point a double technical was called on the NRCA bench, and
Jimmy Joyner made 3 of 4 foul shots.
CA called a time out and changed their defense from a
zone press to a full court man to man / run & jump, along
with an offensive change vs. the NRCA 2 – 3 zone.
The Chargers responded to both changes and went on a
33 – 3 run to lead 61 – 41 with 2:21 left in the game.
The change was probably more of a mental / attitude
adjustment, as everyone who played during the run
contributed in big ways.
Leading CA tonight was freshman Jimmy
Joyner with 21 points and 3 rebounds, Nick Debnam with 19
points, 6 assists and 4 steals, while Jon Lohr added in 7
points and 3 rebounds.
Newcomer Christian Council added 7 points and 6
assists. CA got
excellent defensive efforts in the 2nd half from
Bradley Roberts, Charlie Stutesman, James Link and Anirudh
Kota.

CA @ Cape Fear Academy
64 – 46
The Chargers made the long trip to
Wilmington pay off, as they came away with a 64 – 46
victory.
CA improves to 8 – 7
overall this season.
After a very slow start in the 1st
half (CA led 8 – 5 and the end of the 1st, 18 –
14 at the half), the Chargers came out and took control of
the game in the 2nd half.
This was due to increased defensive pressure and
production in the transition game on offense.
CA led 36 – 30 at the end of the 3rd and
then exploded for 25 points in the 4th to put the
game away.
Leading CA tonight were Jimmy Joyner
with 18 points and 3 steals, Nick Debnam with 15 points, 6
assists and 8 steals and Bradley Roberts with 6 points.
Cameron Walton had 5 points, 3 assists and 3 steals,
while 4 other players chipped in with 4 points each.
Balanced scoring and team defense were the keys to
this win.

CA vs. Greenfield School
56 - 60
Tonight’s 3rd place game saw
the Chargers fall to NCISAA 1A power Greenfield school 60 –
56, to take 4th place.
While no loss is ever a good thing, the Chargers came
back tonight with great effort and heart to lose in the
final minute.
The Chargers record is now at 7 – 7 heading into the New
Year’s break.
Greenfield jumped out to a 21 – 10 lead
at the end of the first quarter as CA did not do a good job
of defending in transition.
The second quarter saw CA outscore GS 13 – 9 to cut
the margin to 30 – 23 at the half.
Anirudh Kota and Cameron each had 3 points in the
period and CA did a much better job defensively.
The third period see sawed back and
forth with GS leading 48 – 37.
In the fourth, the Chargers made a run, outscoring
the Knights 17 – 12, and pulled within 4 points in the final
minute. The
Knights did a good job of running clock and the Chargers
were forced to foul at the end.
The difference was a 16 of 28 performance by CA at
the foul line.
Overall, the tournament was a success.
Ragsdale won the Men’s bracket defeating Durham
Academy 82 – 45.
In the Women’s bracket, Rabun Gap won by forfeit over
Western Harnett 2 – 0 (Western Harnett informed us this
morning that they had mistakenly over scheduled games and
was over the allowed NCHSAA limit).
Nick Debnam from CA was named the Men’s bracket Most
Outstanding Player.
The All – Tournament teams were selected by a vote of
all head coaches (coaches voted for players at the
conclusion of each game).
Coach Jordan and his staff would like
to thank all of the parents who volunteered to work the
gates and hospitality room.
This event could not be possible without your efforts
and your work is appreciated more than you will know.
We would like to say a special “Thank You” to Denise
Carson, who headed up getting the workers and the food.
You are the best Mrs. C!
We would also like to thank all of the
schools who participated this year.
The games were, for the most part, competitive and
well played. We
wish the best of luck to all teams for the remainder of
their seasons.

CA vs. Durham Academy
Semi Finals of Cary News Holiday Invitational
57 – 62
Tonight’s semi final saw the Chargers 7
game win streak come to end and with a 62 – 57 loss to TISAC
rival Durham Academy.
CA started strong, jumping out to an 18 – 11 lead at the end
of the first period.
Nick Debnam led the chargers with 7 points and 4
steals in the period, with Jimmy Joyner chipping in with 5
points. In the
second and third periods, DA used their superior inside game
to out rebound CA and grab the lead at 45 – 37 at the end of
the third.
The fourth quarter saw the Chargers return to their
trademark pressing and fast break, outscoring the Cavaliers
20 – 15. CA had
their opportunities to win the game down the stretch, but
poor foul shooting plagued them as they were a total of 8 of
19 from the line.
Leaders for CA were Nick Debnam with 16
points, 9 assists and 9 steals, Cameron Walton with 12
points, Stuart Gordon with 10 points and 5 steals and
Alexander Stuart with 4 points and 8 rebounds.
The Chargers got great efforts in the second half

1st round vs. Fuquay–Varina
48 – 46
In what can only honestly be called an
ugly game, Cary Academy defeated Fuquay–Varina 48 – 46 to
extend their winning streak to 7 games.
The Chargers jumped out to a 15 – 8
lead at the end of the 1st quarter behind their
press which caused 8 Bengal turnovers.
CA extended the lead to 27 – 19 at the half with
Cameron Walton pumping in 6 points.
The 3rd quarter saw CA score
a total of 7 points as we could not solve the 2 – 3 zone by
FVHS. CA trailed 36 – 34 at the end of the period.
The 4th quarter saw much of the same thing
as FVHS opened up a 46 – 41 lead with 2:12 left to play.
This was when the Chargers woke up.
A big 2 point basket by Bradley Roberts cut the lead
to 3 and Stuart Gordon followed that with a huge 3 pointer
to tie the score at 46.
From there, the Charger defense forced 4 Bengal
turnovers in their next 5 possessions and hit 2 big foul
shots by Nick Debnam to seal the victory.
The Chargers got great efforts in the
second half from James Link, Bradley Roberts and Jimmy
Joyner. We would
not have won but for their positive play. The Chargers
pushed their record to 7 – 5
over all.

Homecoming game vs. Kestrel Heights
83– 46
What a homecoming for
our alumni to be a part of!
CA extended their winning streak to 6 straight with a
83 – 46 win over Kestrel Heights School.
In what was a total team defensive effort, the
Chargers forced 31 Hawk turnovers that led to 34 CA points.
Leading the defensive charge were Nick Debnam with 6
steals, Cameron Walton, Anirudh Kota and Stuart Gordon with
3 steals and Jimmy Joyner, Jared Carson Charlie Stutesman
and Jon Lohr
with 2 steals each.
Shane Orton had 4 blocked shots and James Link
chipped in with 2 as well.
On the offensive end, CA was led by
freshman Cameron Walton with 18 points and 3 assists, Nick
Debnam with 16 points and 7 assists, freshman Jimmy Joyner

Chargers outrebounded the Hawks 48 – 22, led by James Link
with 7, Cameron Walton with 5, Jimmy Joyner with 7, Anirudh
Kota with 5, Shane Orton with 5 and Jon Lohr with 7.
Perhaps most impressive, was the 19 of
22 performance at the foul line as a team.
This group is coming together as a team and realize
that each game in itself is what is important, not looking
ahead.
We are looking forward to hosting the 6
annual Cary News Holiday Classic December 27 – 29, 2007 here
at CA. It is an
exciting field of teams on both the men’s and women’s end
and we are looking forward to some excellent basketball
being played.
The team and coaches would like to take this opportunity to say a huge

CA @ Sanford Grace Christian 82 – 72
With a less than stellar defensive
performance, the Chargers prevailed tonight 82 – 72.
While the offense was steady and well spread out all
night, CA just could not
find it’s defensive rhythm and allowed Grace
Christian to stay in the game.
While Grace committed 29 turnovers, fouls plagued the
Chargers all evening, as Grace was 22 of 33 at the foul
line.
On the offensive side, 10 of 12 CA
players entered the scoring column, led by Nick Debnam’s 22
points and 9 assists.
Stuart Gordon added 21 points and 3 rebounds, while
Cameron Walton had 9 points, Jimmy Joyner had 8 points and 5
rebounds, Anirudh Kota had 4 points and 5 rebounds and Jon
Lohr had 6 points and 5 rebounds.
The Chargers won the rebounding battle 42 – 35 and
shot 77% from the foul line.
We have extended our winning streak to
5 straight and our overall record is now 5 – 5.
Our next game is this Thursday vs. Kestrel Heights
for Homecoming 2007.
The team is really looking forward to playing in
front of the home fans and alumni.
The guys would also like to say a huge “thank you” to
our parents who attend the games, our cheerleaders and to X

We look forward to seeing all of you on Thursday!

CA vs. Cary Christian 73 – 40
The Chargers extended their winning
streak to 4 games, and 3 in a row at home,
with a 73 -
40 win over Cary Christian tonight.
CA came out ready to play and dominated the first
quarter with an impressive full court zone press and tight
man to man half court defense that led to a 28 – 4 score at
the end of one.
Stuart Gordon came out on fire as he hit for 4 – 3 pointers
in the stanza.
CA extended their lead in
the second period as they got 4 points each from Nick
Debnam, Jared Carson and Shane Orton, to lead 43 – 14 at the
half. In the
second half, the Chargers played a half court man to man and
were able to get plenty of minutes for all on the roster
while working to execute on the offensive end.
Leading
CA tonight were Stuart Gordon with 18 points on 6 – 3
pointers, which ties the school record for a single game.
Also contributing were Nick Debnam with 10 points, 9
assists and 6 steals, Jimmy Joyner with 10 points and 2
steals, Bradley Roberts with 7 points and 3 assists and
Dennis Gugger with 7 points and a steal.
Leading rebounders were sophomore James Link with 8,
junior Charlie Stutesman with 8, senior Shane Orton with 6
and junior Jon Lohr with 5.

Home vs. Wake Christian 67 - 51
This evening the Chargers played host
to Wake Christian and came away with a 67 – 51 victory.
In what was not their best rebounding performance of
the season, CA played excellent defense throughout the
contest in limiting the Bulldogs to 13 total baskets.
Shane Orton lead the defensive pressure with 5
steals. He was
joined by Nick Debnam with 3 steals, Cameron Walton with 3
steals and Bradley Roberts with 2.
The Chargers forced 27 total WCA turnovers for the
game.
On the offensive side, CA was led by
Cameron Walton with 15 points and 3 assists, Nick Debnam, 13
points & 3 assists, Stuart Gordon with 11 points, Jimmy
Joyner with 8 and Alexander Stuart with 7 points.
This may not have been the prettiest
game ever, but the Chargers found a way to win by playing
team defense and believing in each other as a team, as
evidenced by 10 of 12 players breaking the scoring column.
Our record is now 3 – 5, with a 3 game winning streak.

CA vs. South Granville
73 – 67
A truly exciting game from start to
finish! CA had
perhaps their best practice of the season the night before
and it certainly
carried over into the 1st quarter.
The Chargers jumped out to a 23 – 15 lead and did not
trail in the first half.
The tempo was furious by both teams, offensively and
defensively. CA
hit 4 – 3 pointers in the first half, with freshman Cameron
Walton nailing 3 of them.
The Chargers forced 12 Viking turnovers in the first
half, converting them into 16 points.
The second half saw the Vikings come
out strong and take a 3 point lead in the 3rd
period, only to be answered by a Charger run of 9 – 3 to end
the period with CA leading, 56 – 53.
The 4th quarter was played at a high
intensity level by both teams again as the lead changed
hands 6 times heading into the final 1:43 of the game.
It was at this point, with the score62 – 62,
that the Chargers took control and finished with a 11
– 5 run to put the game away.
CA went 8 of 10 at the foul line in the last 3
minutes, with Cameron Walton going 4 of 4 in the last 40
seconds.
Leading the Chargers were:
Stuart Gordon with 27 points, and 5 rebounds, Cameron
Walton with 18 points (4 – 3 pointers) and 3 steals, Nick
Debnam, 9 points, 9 assists and 5 steals, Jon Lohr with 5
points and 12 rebounds, Jimmy Joyner,
6 points and Shane Orton with 4 points and 8
rebounds.
This was a big win for the team.
Beating a NCHSAA 3A school, at home was / is an
important step for the team and the rebuilding of the
program overall.

December
4, 2007
CA @ Cary Christian
57 - 55
We got our first win , 57 –
55. Once again, we got off to a slow start, trailing 18 – 13
at the end of the 1st period.
An outstanding defensive 2nd quarter put
the Chargers back in the game, 28 – 26 at the half.
The 2nd half saw CA really turn up the
defensive pressure and ultimately force 24 turnovers for the
game. While we
did not shoot the ball very well at all, we did do a good
job at the foul line, going 12 of 18.
The turning point was the last 3
minutes. After
being in this position in 3 other games, the Chargers
executed down the stretch and hit some big shots, played
solid defense and went 5 of 6 at the charity stripe.
Leading the Chargers were, Jimmy Joyner
with 13 points and 2 steals, Jon Lohr, who had a double –
double (12 points / 12 rebounds),
Nick Debnam with 9
points and a new CA single game assist record with 12!
Shane Orton chipped in with 2 points, 8 rebounds, 4
steals and 9 deflections.
As a coaching staff, we are extremely
happy for the guys, as they have worked hard every day to
get better and learn a totally new style of basketball.
We really feel that this win is the start of
something very good for all of us.
The execution down the stretch was the difference and
it was great to see the carryover from practice drills /
situations into a real game situation.

December 1, 2007
CA @ Greensboro Day
50 - 83
The final score does not tell the story
of this game.
For 20 minutes, the young Chargers played with one of the
most storied programs in the NCISAA.
CA got off to a great start in the 1st,
hitting 2 – 3 pointers and played great defense.
Unfortunately, Bruce Woodall hit 4 3 pointers in the
final 2 minutes of the first period for GDS to extend their
lead. The
Chargers refused to give up and came out in the second half
and played with the Bengals.
Leading CA were:
Freshman Jimmy Joyner with 17 points and 4 rebounds,
Stuart Gordon with 16 points and 5 rebounds and freshman
Cameron Walton with 10 points and 3 steals.
This game was well played by both teams and the
Chargers come out of it with a real sense that their first
victory is right around the corner.

November 30, 2007
CA @ Wesleyan Christian Academy
72 - 79
After a great practice on Thursday
night, the Chargers made the trip to High Point to play
the Trojans.
CA seemed a little sluggish coming out of the gate,
perhaps from the bus ride and fell behind 27 – 18 at the end
of the first period.
However, things changed quickly in the 2nd,
as the Chargers outscored the Trojans 24 – 18 to only trail
45 – 42 at the half.
The 3rd period again saw CA come out slow as we
got behind by 16 points.
The Charger defense stiffened and the break began to
flow as we pulled back to 3 points with 2:30 left to play in
the 4th.
WCA hit 7 of 8 free throws in that time to put the
game away. Even
in a loss, this was a turning point for the team.
We now believe that with a sustained commitment on
the defensive end and an up tempo, passing
offense, we could have won this game.
CA got outstanding games from the
following players:
Nick Debnam, 20 points & 8 assists, Freshman Cameron
Walton, 14 points and 4 steals, Stuart Gordon with 20 points
and 6 rebounds.
Shane Orton, Jon Lohr, James Link, Alexander Stuart
and Charlie Stutesman did their best job of the young
season in the post as they continue to improve every day.
We play tomorrow @ Greensboro Day @ 230 PM.

CA @ Word of God
33 - 109
The Chargers met an
extremely talented and quick Holy Ram squad tonight.
While we played hard the entire evening, we just were
not able to physically match up with them.
Leading scorers for CA were Nick Debnam with 9
points, Stuart Gordon with 7 points and Jimmy Joyner with 6
points.
The Chargers play this weekend, 11/30 @
Wesleyan Christian and 12/1 @ Greensboro Day.

CA vs. Trinity Christian 46 - 54
The Varsity Chargers fell
last night 54 – 46 to Trinity Christian here at CA.
Once again, the game was tied with 3 minutes left in
the 4th quarter .
Trinity then went on a 6 – 0 run and the Chargers
were forced to foul at the end to get the ball back.
We got great efforts from Nick Debnam,
15 points, 4 assists and 2 steals, freshman Jimmy Joyner
with 16 points and 4 rebounds , freshman Cameron Walton with
8 points and 3 assists and junior Jon Lohr with 8 rebounds
and a blocked shot.
The team is still in the growing stage
as this is a new style of basketball for them, but the guys
are working hard every day to get better and really believe
in each other as a team.
Good things are ahead for this group.

CA vs St David's School 53 - 64
The Chargers lost tonight 64 – 53.
CA jumped out to a quick 5 – 0 lead and led 11 – 9 at
the end of the first period.
A slow second quarter hurt the guy’s but another
quick start in the 3rd period put the Chargers
right back in the game.
CA got great shots in the 4th quarter but
could not get them to fall and had to foul in the last 1:30
to get the ball back.
Over all it was a good first game even
though we did not get the win.
Great effort and team enthusiasm were shown all night
and the team never quit.
Leading the Chargers were Stuart Gordon with 21
points on 3 – 3 pointers, Nick Debnam with 9 points and 4
assists and Jared Carson with 7 points and 2 steals.
Alexander Stuart came off the bench to provide 5
rebounds and Cameron Walton had 2 steals.
The Chargers are home on
