Dear Parents,
The Upper School Choruses have been approved to attend the Heritage Music Festival in Myrtle Beach, SC on Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19. The plan is to travel to Myrtle Beach early on Friday morning and return very late Saturday night/Sunday morning. The competition is held on Friday and Saturday with the awards on Saturday evening. We will hope to compete all four choral groups (CA Singers and CA Ensemble together, CA Ensemble, a Men’s Group and a Women’s group) on Friday, but if we cannot fit all the groups in on Friday, we will also compete on Saturday. The awards ceremony will be held Saturday evening and after the awards event, we will return.
We presently estimate the festival to cost $275.00 (which includes meals), but the final cost will be determined after we have a definite count of how many students will participate. Because the trip is very short, it is my hope that all students will participate. Since Cary Academy opened its doors 10 ½ years ago, the Upper School Chorus has only been adjudicated three times. Preparing for a festival/ competition sets the bar a little higher than our “in house” concerts. The students want to achieve superior ratings and have a shot at winning in their division. Attending festivals also offer a great opportunity to hear choirs from other parts of the country. We learn so much by listening to others. Hearing a truly outstanding choir helps our students to realize what can be achieved at the high school level and hearing a choir that may not be up to our level gives us a good boost. We can learn a lot from each and every group we listen to.
I am thrilled we are allowed this opportunity. I hope you will support your child and the Upper School Choruses in this endeavor. It is my goal to raise the bar for the Upper School Choruses and help us to achieve a high level of success.
Please return this form with a non-refundable deposit of $50.00 by Friday, November 9. If everyone can commit by Friday, I will be able to work out final costs much sooner than waiting until sometime in December. Also, we get a bit of a cost break by committing by November 15. If you are interested in chaperoning the event, please contact me by email. I will need male and female chaperones and always love to have nurses and/or physicians travel with us. I will only need approximately 5 chaperones and only 4 or 5 will fit on the bus with us. Let me know quickly as these slots go quickly. J I will confirm who the chaperones will be after I get all the papers turned in and find out exactly how many people are traveling.
