Individual Opportunities Beyond the Classroom

North Carolina Honors Chorus - general description

North Carolina Honors Chorus is a state-wide chorus selected through individual audition.  The Honors Chorus rehearsal and performance week end is usually the second week end of November.  For 2007 details, click on the Honors Chorus link under Upcoming Events.  The Honors Chorus event is part of the North Carolina Music Educators Association convention held in Winston-Salem.  Students who are accepted for Honors Chorus are expected to learn the performance literature and to participate in the event.  Costs involved are an acceptance fee, hotel accommodations -the kids can room together, music purchase, meals, and transportation.  The number of students selected will determine the number of parent chaperones necessary.  This is an incredible honor and experience for individual students.  The audition process is rigorous but a great learning experience for students who are ready for the challenge.

North Carolina Middle School Honors Chorus is sponsored by the North Carolina Music Educators Association.  The chorus is comprised of selected 6th, 7th and 8th graders from throughout North Carolina.  Individual student auditions are held in Greensboro, North Carolina on Thursday, October 4.  At the audition, each student must sing a portion of the audition piece (which Mrs. Holcombe has), sight sing, and vocalize.   Selection to the Honors Chorus is determined by the student’s audition score.  Notification will be mailed to Mrs. Holcombe approximately one week after the audition. At that time, the student will have approximately one week to accept or refuse the invitation to participate.  Only students who are serious about attending Honors Chorus should consider auditioning.  There is an application/audition fee of $15.00 and if selected the student must also pay a $15.00 acceptance fee.
