Spring and Summer Concert Season
by: Brittany Kielhurn

As the winter season comes to an end and the temperatures begin to get warm at night, the concert season is going into full swing.  Emo rock band Weezer came to the Entertainment and Sports Arena a few weeks ago, with independent favorites Saves the Day and Ozma opening.  Although a mix up in the box office left people who bought their tickets the day of the event with floor passes and everyone else with seats, by the end of the concert the Arena management was handing out passes for free, and the floor was packed.

The concert began with Ozma, then after a short break, Saves the Day took the stage.  Although Saves the Day garnered a better response from the crowd, it was clear that the majority of the attendees were there to see Weezer.  As soon as they took the stage, the floor began to fill.

Weezer played a combination of songs from their 1994 debut album “Weezer,” dubbed “The Blue Album” for the color of the disk, “Pinkerton” their 1996 sophomore disk, and their newest album, the second “Weezer,” dubbed “The Green Album,” which was released in 2001.

Other major concerts coming up in the Raleigh area include Widespread Panic on April 19th and 20th, and Blink 182 and Green Day with openers Jimmy Eat World on May 19th, both at Walnut Creek.  Santana is coming to the Raleigh Entertainment and Sports Arena on March 29th, and Incubus on June 24th.  Other smaller venues are also hosting a number of good bands.
