Little Shop of Horrors
by: Megan Anderson

A dorky florist, a blonde bombshell, a deranged dentist, a Yiddish flower shop owner, a trio of street urchins, and a man-eating plant.  What do these things have in common?  Everything, since they’re all a part of the Upper School production of Little Shop of Horrors.  The story takes place on Skid Row in the 1960’s, where a young florist runs across a strange and interesting new plant and gets more than he bargained for.  The performance encompassed a spectrum of themes: action, romance, comedy, drama, and music.  It is sure to appeal to the whole audience.  Many people are familiar with the 1980’s film version of Little Shop of Horrors, but if anyone going to the performance expects the play and the movie to be the same, they are in for a big surprise.  Casting for principle roles includes James Curtis as Seymore the young florist, Carolyn Usanis as Audrey the bombshell, Nathan Catchings as Orin the dentist, Melih Onvunal as Mr. Mushink the owner of the floral shop, Megan Anderson, Leslie Speakman, and Ali Parks as Crystal, Chiffon, and Ronnette, the modern “Greek Chorus,” and finally the plant with vocals by Cyrus Atkins and puppeteering by Kamla Kasichainula.
