The
University of Washington offers the perfect location for North
Carolina students who want to get as far away from home for college as
they can. A relatively large school, Washington offers 117 majors,
ranging from aeronautics
to zoology. Because of
Washington’s tremendous size, the school does have the drawback that
teachers' assistants teach
17% of the classes at the University.
As TA's generally teach younger students,
usually in entry-level courses, this means that incoming freshmen who
do not place out of entry-level courses are exceptionally likely to
take classes taught by people other than professors. The
University accepts AP test scores of 2 or higher for college credit,
so a large number of students who have taken AP classes in high school
do place out of these courses. As member of the Pac-10 Athletics Conference, the University
of Washington competes at the NCAA Division I level in athletic
competitions.
