GRADING SYSTEM

7th Grade

  • 50% of grade will be Physical Education

  • 50% of grade will be Health

6th and 8th Grades

  • 100% of grade will be Physical Education

  • 60 % participation and effort

  • 40% tests (sports knowledge)

Physical Education Point Reduction Scale:

·        Not dressed out/being insubordinate/unsafe act       -4
   No shoes/shirt/shorts/inappropriate accessories      -2
   Unsportsmanlike conduct or horseplay                   -(2 - 4 points)
   Lack of effort                                                         - (1 – 4 points)
   No penalty for written excuse from doctor, parent, or nurse

 

  • Student-athletes will be given the option of using their PE (not health) period on AWAY game days. 

  • PE shoes may be worn inside and outside but must be clean.

  • Students not participating may be assigned written work.

  • Students not participating in PE due to sickness or injury may be restricted from after school physical activities.

MARKING SYSTEM

A+     97 – 100 B+     87 – 89 C+     77 – 79 D+     67 – 69
A       93 – 96 B       83 – 86 C       73 – 76 D       65 – 66
A-      90 – 92 B-      80 – 82 C-      70 – 72 F       Below 65

EFFORT MARKS

4= Superior     3= Satisfactory     2=unsatisfactory    1=seriously deficient

 

EFFORT GRADES CRITERIA:

Superior Effort = 4
Student who demonstrates a desire to learn and attempt new skills above and beyond expectations.  Student who consistently exhibits good sportsmanship, cooperation, and teamwork.  An individual who is willing to help other classmates achieve skill proficiency.  Student who always follows directions and contributes positively to class discussions or activities.

Satisfactory Effort = 3
Student who attempts most skills.  Student who exhibits good sportsmanship, cooperation, and teamwork most of the time.  An individual who is willing to help other classmates attempt skills.  Student who follows directions and contributes positively to class discussions or activities.

Unsatisfactory Effort = 2
Student who is unwilling to learn or attempt new skills.  Student who rarely exhibits sportsmanship, cooperation, and teamwork.  An individual that is only concerned with his/herself and rarely helps others.  Student who needs to be reminded frequently to follow directions and does not positively contribute to classroom discussions or activities.

Seriously Deficient Effort = 1
Student who does not attempt new skills.  Student who does not exhibit sportsmanship, cooperation, and teamwork.  An individual that is concerned only with him/herself and makes fun of others who are less skilled.  Student who does not follow directions and is usually a disruption during class (individually or as part of a group).

EXTRA CREDIT POLICY

The department does not offer extra credit.  However, individual instructors may, at his or her discretion, offer class-wide opportunities for improvement of test scores. 

HOMEWORK POLICY

Homework should be completed by the due date assigned.  Work will be accepted late; however, the score will drop by one letter grade each day it is late.  Thus the highest score for a late homework assignment is a B+.
