COURSE OVERVIEW:
The main goal of Healthy Sexuality is
to empower students to take personal responsibility for
their sexuality. Five components of personal power compose
the definition of healthy sexual behavior:

Protecting myself and others
-
Owning my rights and
responsibilities

Considering consequences before
engaging in sexual behavior
-
Communicating my limits clearly
-
Respecting myself and others
PROGRAM GOALS:

Promote abstinence
-
Increase student-parent
communication about sexuality
-
Assist students in developing their
own support systems
-
Define and promote healthy
relationships
-
Teach and practice skills for
resisting pressure to engage in sexual behaviors
-
Practice effective communication,
decision-making, and goal-setting skills
-
Provide factual information on
sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS
OBJECTIVES:
As a result of participating in the
Healthy Sexuality course students will be expected to:

Demonstrate an understanding of
concepts related to sexual health promotion and disease
prevention.

Demonstrate the ability to practice
health-enhancing behaviors and reduce health risks.

Analyze the influence of culture,
media, technology, and other factors on sexual health.

Demonstrate the ability to use
interpersonal communication skills to enhance sexual
health.

Demonstrate the ability to use goal
setting and decision making skills to maintain sexual
health.
