Features 1/6 credit
(Fall/Winter/Spring / MWF)
Fall: Mystery/Suspense Thrillers / Winter:
Comedy/Satire/Parody / Spring: Features/a la carte
Advanced Video students will write, produce, and shoot
fiction pieces in a focused genre. Fall trimester will
study the mystery/suspense thriller—taking a close look at
how to “leave ‘em hanging”. We’ll study how to write
believable dialogue, what creates mood and atmosphere,
character development, the art of foreshadowing and the
importance of point of view. Winter trimester the
focus turns to satire and parody. The class will study the
use of wit as a literary device in comics, TV shows, and
movies. Creation of satirical features or parodies of
songs, commercials, soap operas, or movie scenes are just
some of the possibilities for student productions. The
Spring Advanced Video Production class will produce features
in any genre selected by the group, reinforcing the elements
of writing good dialogue, creating mood and atmosphere,
developing character, creating conflict, and telling a story
with a strong plot.
Prerequisite: Advanced video skills; permission of
the teacher if you have not taken Tech Video previously.
