The mission of the Committee on Multicultural Initiatives and Diversity (COMID) is to foster our community and environment where the richness of our diversity is recognized, respected and embraced. Our view on diversity includes, but is not limited to, ethnic, racial and linguistic heritage; religious traditions; gender; sexual orientation; age; and socioeconomic status.

MEET CARY ACADEMY'S DIVERSITY DIRECTOR

As a Raleigh native and educational professional, Shani Barrax Moore had heard for years about Cary Academy’s exceptional reputation throughout the academic community. Now, she will learn about it firsthand.

Moore recently began work as the new diversity director at Cary Academy. Born and raised in Raleigh, Moore has worked with various North Carolina public school systems, and also with the North Carolina School of Science and Math, North Carolina State University and Meredith College. She received her B.A. from UNC-Chapel Hill in journalism and mass communication, and earned her master’s in business administration at Strayer University.

Moore ultimately seeks to create a more internationally aware and diverse student body. One of her several goals is to encourage students to discuss diversity through dialogue by creating small, personal dialogue groups, which would provide a chance for students, parents and faculty to better understand each other.
